Wasdale in the Lake district is the name given to a beautiful valley in the western part of the Lake District National Park (Cumbria). Generally the area between Gosforth in West Cumbria, up to the mountains Great Gable and Scafell Pike. The River Irt flows through the Wasdale valley and a large part of the main valley floor is occupied by Wastwater lake (the deepest lake in the Uk – at its deepest it is below sea level!). At the head of the Wastwater valley is Scafell Pike (the highest mountain in England). Wasdale is famous amongst rock climbers and fell walkers as the home of British rock climbing. One of Wasdales many claims to fame is that on the 9th September in 2007 Wast Water was voted the best view in the UK on the ITV series ‘Britain’s Favourite View’, beating 15 other celebrity nominated locations from all over the UK. many visitors to Wasdale prefer the selfcatering option and choose to rent a wasdalecottage, lodge, caravan or even a yurt!
